What an Amazon jungle lodge is
A jungle lodge is a base inside or beside the forest. You sleep and eat there and leave each day with a guide on foot or by canoe. Packages usually cover a room, meals and guided activities. Getting to the lodge is often a separate matter, and it can take half a day or more.
The examples below are single operators with published terms. They show what one product includes, not an average for a country or a comfort class. This site is independent and has no link to any lodge, ship, park authority or tour operator.

Types of lodge
How access shapes the stay.
Community lodges
Posada Amazonas is on land of the Ese Eja Native Community of Infierno, directly connected to Tambopata. The operator lists about 1 hour by road and about 1 hour by boat from Puerto Maldonado, with a shared transfer for guests who arrive before 1 p.m.
Puerto Maldonado and Tambopata →Canoe-access lodges
In Cuyabeno, the guide registers you at the control point, then a motorized canoe takes you to the lodge. A Quito bus costs $37 each way, a road transfer from Coca takes about 3.5 hours, and neither is in the base price.
Ecuador guide →Remote lodges
Reaching a lodge in Madidi from Rurrenabaque takes about 5.5 hours by boat upriver and 3 hours back, plus a 2 km walk of about 25 minutes between the landing and the lodge. Count the transfer as travel time, not as a hiking day.
Bolivia guide →Package tours near Manaus
Many lodges near Manaus are sold inside tour packages. Check what the package covers and which lodge you sleep in.
Manaus guide →What to ask before you book
The wording differs more than the headline price does.
Is the park fee included?
One Bolivian lodge lists a Madidi fee of 200 BOB on top of its package. A Peruvian reserve charges 30 to 150 PEN depending on length. A lodge in a region does not automatically sit inside the reserve of the same name.
What about transfers and flights?
Ask which legs are in the price. Flights, airport transfers, bus rides and nights in the gateway city are often separate.
Rooms and supplements
A Cuyabeno list prices rooms per person on double occupancy and adds $50 for a single room in high season. One ship adds 50 or 75 percent for a single cabin and lists a festive period from 15 to 31 December 2026.
Children
The Cuyabeno list gives 30 percent off for ages 5 to 12 and free stays under 5. Delfín II and III take children from 7 years, with 20 percent off up to age 11. The Yasuní lodge recommends children from 5 years. Policies differ by operator.
Payment terms
One lodge asks for full payment 30 days ahead and adds 2.9 percent for cards. The Delfín ships ask for a $750 deposit per person when you book at least 91 days ahead, with the balance 90 days before departure.
Power, Wi-Fi, comfort and medical help
Do not assume air conditioning, Wi-Fi, electricity or an evacuation plan. Ask directly, and ask about travel insurance that covers evacuation, because one ship excludes medical emergencies and evacuation from the fare.
Health, wildlife and communities
Remote stays call for some preparation.
The CDC lists malaria transmission and recommends yellow fever vaccination for the Amazon areas of Peru, Brazil, Ecuador and Bolivia. A lodge saying it has no reported cases is not proof of no risk. Ask a travel medicine clinic what fits you well before departure. This site gives no medication details. One lodge lists binoculars, long light trousers and shirts, rain protection, personal medicine, a flashlight, sunscreen and insect protection.
Do not touch or feed wild animals, and do not ask for photos with animals in your arms. A swim on the program is not a health clearance, since the CDC advises against swimming in untreated fresh water in Peru and Brazil. At Chalalán, a cultural program with the Uchupiamonas people runs with local guides. Contact with isolated groups is not a tourist activity, and ayahuasca ceremonies have caused serious illness and deaths in the Peruvian forest according to the German Foreign Office.

Amazon jungle lodges: frequently asked questions
How much does an Amazon lodge cost?
No single range applies. One Cuyabeno lodge lists $239 to $579 per person for 3 to 5 days in 2026, and one Peruvian community lodge advertises 3 days and 2 nights from $1,266. Compare what each price includes.
What is usually included?
Rooms, meals and guided activities. Transfers, flights, park fees, community fees, extra drinks and tips are often separate, so read the includes list.
Is every lodge inside a national park?
No. A lodge in the region may lie outside the reserve boundary. Posada Amazonas, for example, is on community land connected to Tambopata.
How early should I book?
One Yasuní lodge advises at least 3 months. That is its own advice and not a legal rule, but remote lodges have limited rooms.
Can I travel alone to a lodge?
Many lodges run fixed programs with guides, and access to protected areas runs through authorized operators or registration. Ask the lodge how a solo traveler joins a program.
